| This is a short biography to get you acquainted with me. There's a lot left out, but this should help if you have to write a book report and need to know something about the author. Clara Gillow Clark: Readers always want to know how old I am, and teachers always tell them not to ask. So here goes...the answer to the question you are NOT supposed to ask is: Almost Ancient. That means I am older than fifty but not old enough to collect Social Security. I was born and raised (except for one exciting year in Florida when I was in 4th grade) in the Northeast corner of Pennsylvania, near where I live today. If you have a copy of my book Hill Hawk Hattie, grab it now and flip to the page with the map of the Delaware River. A little geography lesson follows: In case you didn't know, the Delaware River forms much of the Eastern border of New York State and Pennsylvania. Trace your finger along the river border and STOP when you come to the dot on the map that says Callicoon. Slide your finger over to the Pennsylvania side of the river, and it'll land on top of my house. It's a small house so don't press too hard, please. Whew! That's better. I have a little red house and seventy-five acres with woods and fields and a pond that's more or less ten acres depending on how busy the beavers are. I don't have pets, but I do have lots of water fowl--black ducks, green and great heron, mergansers, wood ducks, mallards, geese. Sometimes osprey and eagle come up from the river to fish. I have white tail deer, bobcats, fox, black bear, turkeys, opossum, and porcupine to mention a few. I once had a moose visit and occasionally I see a lynx. It's kind of like an outdoor zoo without cages and bars. I come from a large family (I'm #7 of 7). I can't remember my oldest sister, Jennie, as anything but a colorful, flamboyant visitor, and I only remember my oldest brother, Dan, as being tall and grownup. Next is Ellen who was our primary child sitter. Thelma taught me to read before I started school. John taught me to tie my shoes and to ride a bike. Lela told me stories. I have a lot of good memories about my early childhood and my siblings. I have always loved to read. When I was in school my two favorite places were the library and the music room. I have one son, J.Jay who is grownup and lives in Arizona. He was in the army until recently. After being widowed for eight years, I married Stephen in September 2005. I've written a lot of books, but not all of them are published. I wrote about four novels before my first one was published. I now have five published novels with two others on the way. I have an office in my home, and, in addition to writing my books, I also teach two college level courses on writing. I love being home, but I also enjoy traveling. I've spoken at many library, reading and writing conferences in places like New Orleans, Atlanta, Norfolk, Pittsburgh, Hershey, and most of the major cities in NY State. I do come to schools, but most of my visits are in New York and Pennsylvania. I do travel to other States: Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Virginia, and the Country of Panama. That's it for now.
